Bazaar -- Smita Patil

Smita Patil movies usually brings with them a lot of undercurrents of sorrows and helplessness of reality. And this movie is yet another one which wrenches my heart with the helplessness and atrocities of humanity.  Whats striking is the character of Smita Patil who aids evil in her ignorance . Her costume portrays her character going through the torments of emotions ...there are bold colors in a single tone...head to toe. Tough colors to carry but she carries it ofcourse!

The simplicity like these pull me towards these characters and their stories. Yellow salwar and brown duppata. Wouldn't a humble but fascinating heart try to wear such colors for hope and expectations!

She matches her attire with same color accessories...Bindi, churri and even paranda giving her more strength in her personality ..some more courage to carry everything together. Carrying sorrows and miseries with colors of joy and lightness.

What a powerful color she wears. Does it depict her stubbornness and rebel in her character? Black. Black with strikes of silver with those big eyes with black kohl.

Janne Bhi Do Yaaro

Janne Bhi Do Yaaro

Janne Bhi Do Yaaron movie needs no introductions. Its a masterpiece in itself. The "world famous" draupdi scene still splits me in laughter, Every character is alive with their idiosyncrasy and insanity. I love this movie so much that I had to dissect it .

The manipulative editor always wore sarees like jeans. So practical , Simple but strong. The strength of her character pales her attire

Rang Birangi -- Parveen Babi and Deepti Naval

Parveen Babi and Deepti Naval in Rang Birangi

Another movie by Deepti Naval and Farooque Shaikh .. my favorite actors from the Parallel Cinema or Art Cinema whatever you choose to say. I watch all their  movie.. no matter what the subject. Just their presence reminds me of the simple times and simple days which we all crave in our rush and gush of life. Their presence makes me happy....

Umrao Jaan -- The Rekha

Rekha as Umrao Jaan

Who wouldn't have heard the songs of Khayyam sung by Asha Bhosle from this acclaimed  movie..Umrao Jaan? The songs wafted through the windows as our childhood was spent on the streets playing. While watching this movie what consumed me was not only the Lucknow of that time but also the exquisite dresses worn by Rekha.
